St Gabriel Genga primary school on Thursday planted over 3,000 trees in a move aimed at conserving the environment.
The school head teacher Felix Oroo said the school management agreed to plant the trees to help in protecting the environment of the institution.
“This is the first tree planting exercise to be conducted in our school. This will be done yearly to ensure the school environment is protected and conserved,” he said.
He lauded pupils for their commitment to plant the trees and asked them to sensitize locals and parents on the need to plant more trees during this rainy season.
"We expect pupils who participated in the tree planting exercise to sensitize parents on the need to plant more at their farms. Unnecessary cutting of trees and illegal charcoal should be stopped in the region by all means possible,” he added.
He called on professionals across Kisii County to be at the forefront to ensure the forests in the region are conserved and protected and illegal loggers punished by the rule of law.
