The controversial MP has recently been put on task to explain allegations that he was dishing out bursaries to non-residents on top of alleged financial impropriety.

Last Friday,  a section of elders installed the MP as an elder at a colorful ceremony attended by residents.

And on Thursday, a section of elders led by Justus Momanyi insisted that the MP had not met the ‘credentials’ of being elevated to an elder, and accused their colleagues of being compromised.

“We are disappointed that a few of us can go against the rules to declare Geni an elder without consultations. The process was done hastily without the involvement of some of us and we distance ourselves,” he said.

“He has not met the credentials to be an elder because he has been facing a number of scandals which should have been explained first. He compromised a few of us but we maintain that the move was uncalled for,” he added.

However, in a quick rejoinder, elder Sam Obare who was among the group that installed Geni defended their move saying it was ‘timely’.

“Those are mere politics and propaganda. We sat and discussed as a team and the view of the majority carried the day. The MP has worked hard to uplift the socio-economic status of our people and he deserved the promotion because it was timely,” he said.
