Vadims Federonkos and Nader Moussa were charged with exporting 50 kilograms of miraa worth Sh55,000 packed in three suitcases.

The court heard that the accused were exporting the commodity to Hamburg, Germany.

The prosecution told the court that the two committed the offence on March 10, 2016, where they were found with the miraa at Moi International Air Port in Mombasa.

During their arrest, Mr Federonkos was arrested with 30 kilograms of miraa worth Sh35,000 while Mr Moussa was arrested while in possession of 20 kilograms of miraa worth Sh20,000.

The court further heard that the miraa was wrapped in foil papers and concealed in one black and two brown suitcases.

The two accused pleaded guilty before the court but asked for mercy, claiming that they were duped by their friends who are Kenyans to export the goods.

Mombasa Chief Magisrate Susan Shitubi in her ruling found the two guilty and fined Mr Federonkos Sh17,250 and Mr Moussa Sh10,000 or serve two months in prison.
