West Mugirango MP James Gesami has dismissed claims from a section of Nyamira residents that his entrance to gubernatorial race was a plan hatched to neutralize support of the Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama who hails from the region.
Gesami announced his candidature a week ago after serving as West Mugirango MP for close to nine years.
On Thursday, the ODM Nyamira branch chair said his entrance to the race was guided by ‘intensive consultations’ with the people of Nyamira and dismissed allegations that he was being staged by a different candidate.
“I am never a project to someone and I will never be one. Such backward allegations are normal in politics so I am not really scared by what people are saying about me. I can not stand in an election to make another person win because I am a serious candidate,” he said.
“As a politician, I did intensive consultations with the people of Nyamira and they fronted me for gubernatorial seat. Nyagarama has a right to contest and so as me. He should face the people and ask his people to desist from projecting me as a project to someone,” he said.
He accused Nyagarama’s team of ‘insincere’ campaigns and vowed to topple him through popular initiative in 2017 polls.
“The Nyagarama team is busy tainting my name because they know I will beat them squarely. I am sure of victory in 2017 and whatever the allegations my opponents are launching against me, I am not scared. It’s all about facing people after all this is a democratic country,” he said.
