Over 2,000 university and college students from West Mugirango constituency have received bursaries from area MP James Gesami.
Gesami also dished cheques worth Sh2 million for boda boda training and hHigh school students in addition to a flat rate of Sh10,000 meant for college and varsity students.
Speaking to this writer on the phone, West Mugirango University Students Association chair Brian Mambo lauded the MP for the ‘fantastic’ work and backed his gubernatorial aspirations in the 2017 general election.
“I want to confirm that students from universities and colleges from West Mugirango have received their bursaries as usual. All needy cases were taken care of and as the chairman, I am very grateful,” he said.
“It was a flat rate of Sh10,000 for the extremely needy cases and Sh8,000 for those in middle-level colleges. Our MP is a good manager and I believe he has the ability to streamline Nyamira once he becomes governor,” he added.
While Gesami admitted that the bursaries were not meant to woo voters to his camp ahead of the 2017 gubernatorial contest, he, however, admitted the need for change in Nyamira county leadership.
“I have only done what I have been doing routinely. We want to boost education amongst our children as I have been doing in the last decade. I would even do better if I get elected as Governor because we need to create a county bursary that will cater for the education of the underprivileged children,” he said.
