West Mugirango member of Parliament James Gesami has disowned a WhatsApp group created in his name by an impostor trying to mislead unsuspecting members of the public.
In a statement on his official Facebook page, Gesami said some unscrupulous people have been using his name, most notably on WhatsApp groups, to dupe unsuspecting members of the public.
"It has come to my attention that there is a WhatsApp group with my name and photo in operation. I wish to state as follows; that I am not associated with it," wrote the MP on his page.
”I, therefore, charge members of the public who may come across such fraudulent messages to disregard them," the statement continued.
The WhatsApp group has reportedly been operation for a week now and it is aiming to amass enough support for Gesami's gubernatorial bid in the 2017 general election.
The legislator announced recently of his interest in the Nyamira County governorship seat.
