West Mugirango MP James Gesami’s Nyamira gubernatorial bid has received a backing from a group of Nyamira residents living in the United States.
Gesami, a two-term MP threw his hut into the ring in an already congested gubernatorial race as the 2017 general election near.
Speaking on the phone from Minnesota, chairperson Alex Momanyi said they were convinced with Gesami’s track record as MP and insisted he was best suited to replace the incumbent, Governor John Nyagarama.
“As the Gusii community in America, we are now convinced that Gesami’s track record as MP makes us rally behind him in the gubernatorial contest. During his tenure, we have seen good roads and health centres with little resources,” he said.
“The incumbent has failed to use the resources properly and that is why we still have many residents languishing in poverty. We need someone who understands progress and as the community living in US, we are going to ensure Gesami takes over the leadership,” he added.
He said the group comprising 50 members will fundraise towards Gesami’s campaigns in December to counter the influence of the incumbent.
