President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Alliance will not have a major impact on the voting patterns in Nyamira and to a larger extent Kisii counties, claims West Mugirango MP James Gesami.
The Gusiiland has been a major target for the Jubilee administration ahead of the 2017 polls with President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto making numerous stopovers in the region since their election into office in 2013.
And Gesami on Monday dismissed the perceived influence of Jubilee in the region saying residents would not vote for a government that had completely ‘failed in terms of boosting development and skewed employment of people.'
“The President should not waste a lot of resources campaigning in Nyamira and Kisii counties. We have seen minimum development especially on roads since most of the projects have stalled and even the health sector is ailing despite the President helping other regions,” he said.
“The coffee and tea sectors have hit a new low making Gusii region a victim of Jubilee poor policies. The money will not influence voting patterns and people will still vote for ODM. More so, we saw him appoint people who had lost touch with the electorates to state corporations,” he added.
However, his statement was rubbished by Kitutu Chache North MP Jimmy Angwenyi during a separate event where he said the opposition Cord had been cornered in the region.
“Gusii people are clever because they have said no to the empty rhetoric of the opposition. Jubilee has achieved a lot in terms of infrastructure and health and whoever is denying is living in an era of sycophancy. The party will carry the day in 2017,” he said.
