Gesima Ward MCA Ken Atuti has opened new buildings for a local polytechnic, and promised to initiate construction of at least four more village such institutions in the area before his tenure expires in 2017.

Speaking during the launchof the new complex of Ritibo Polytechnic, Atuti promised to initiate construction of more village polys to absorb students who fail to secure enrollment in public universities and colleges.

Atuti slammed his competitors for criticizing his development records, and urged them to desist from constant politicking that was derailing development in the region.

“I decided to build the new classrooms due to rising population of students interested in joining village polytechnics. I want to ensure that the number is increased from the current four to at least eight before my term expires,” he said.

Atuti urged parents to encourage their children to take the technical courses for the purpose of giving them a skill that they will use for survival.

“Parents must take their responsibility of ensuring that their children get education. There isn’t any wrong when your child joins a village poly. He or she can emerge from that to become a great person. What is important is to have a skill that can help someone to survive,” he said.

He urged locals to shun politicians who were out to start early campaigns, and asked them to respect all elected leaders.

“Some people have started early campaigns and this trend is not good for all of us. We have leaders who were mandated to work and they must be supported. I want to see those who are campaigning working with me to better this region and not just politics of rhetorics,” he added.
