Government teachers from Gesima zone must change their attitude in imparting knowledge to learners of face sacking through public intervention, Gesima parents have warned.
Speaking on Wednesday during a meeting convened by area MCA Ken Atuti, most parents accused government teachers of laxity and lack of commitment, something that has contributed to deteriorating education standards.
They unanimously agreed to carry a survey every week to assess attendance of teachers to schools, which has been questioned over time.
They said most teachers from the region had ventured into various businesses which they allegedly attend during school time making it impossible for learners to finish syllabus.
“We have gathered here to talk about education standards in our zone. There is no doubt that all is not well simply because some teachers are very lazy. We cannot allow the trend to continue since they have an obligation to perform,” said Alice Ratemo.
“Any teacher who would be spotted attending to his own business at school time will be dealt with parents. We hope TSC and KNUT will support us. We are not saying that it is bad to own a business but do your job first,” she added.
However, Omoyo head teacher Zachary Nyambureti defended teachers from the onslaught but promised that head teachers would not hesitate to take action against such teachers.
“Many of our teachers are doing a fantastic job. Few who are not collaborating will be dealt with and there are procedures which as administrators we follow,” he said.
End.
