Speaking at Botana village during a burial ceremony, area MCA Ken Atuti said the region has always been caught on the receiving end during dry spells, hence there is need for them to trap water using the recent methods like use of improvised boreholes.

He said the water could not only be used for domestic purposes but also as water source for irrigation that could boost the economy of the region and the nation at large.

Atuti said he would make a formal request to the Nyamira County assembly to set aside money in the 2015/16 financial year that will be used to construct water catchment holes that will be used by the public.

“We should take advantage of the ongoing rainy season and come up with methods of harvesting water for our own good. We have always been caught on the receiving end especially during dry spells,” the ward representative said.

“Please improvise ways of harvesting the large quantity of water that is going to waste so that you can use it in future for domestic and irrigation. I will make a formal request to the county assembly so that we set aside some funds that will construct public water areas,” he added.

The region normally experiences long rains between March and May and dry spell in the months of January and February.
