Women from Gesima Ward in Kitutu Masaba have been urged to join groups that can enable them sustain themselves economically.
Speaking on Sunday at Gesima market during a seminar organised by small business owners from the area, area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Ken Nyameino asked them to ensure they enrolled in registered groups for easy aid from various kitties.
“Time has come for all of us to realise the importance of groups in the society. It becomes easier for political leadership to help you sustain yourselves economically if you are in a group,” said Nyameino.
Nyameino also said he will help those trying to register by forming a special group to answer some commonly asked questions and constant complaints from a section of women leaders in the area, which might discourage them registering as groups.
“I am aware of registration complaints by some of you. I have offered myself to ensure we register a couple of groups for our own good,” said Nyameino.
The MCA said many young women who are economically viable were staying idle in villages without seeking alternative methods of survival to improve their standard of living.
“The rate at which the number of young women staying idle is alarming. Let us take advantage of various government initiatives such as Women Enterprise Fund, Uwezo Fund to improve your lives,” said Nyameino.
He contributed Sh20,000 that will be used for registration purposes besides an additional Sh15,000 for the first fifteen women to join an already registered groups.
