A group of youths from Gesima ward have started a youth labour centre that will be used to secure tenders from area residents as a way of reducing increased poverty and unemployment.
Speaking on Thursday at Riamoni location where the centre was set up, chairman Peter Mogusu urged residents to call for human labour in the centre since over 200 youths have already registered.
According to him, the centre will be important since residents will outsource labour from the youths for a standard fee, a move that will see area youths engage in productive activities.
“It was important for us to start such a centre because many residents find it difficult to get human labour for manual jobs. This is a good start because the centre will reduce the level of idleness among the youthful population besides reducing crimes,” he said.
They hailed MCA Ken Atuti for offering to pay monthly rent for the rented building and his subsequent promise to secure tenders for them.
“He is very supportive and I think this is the only way forward. He has promised to support us by securing tenders and I am very pleased that the rent will be paid by him,” he added.
Mr Atuti vowed to support the area youths and warned those who were being used by politicians to ignite political violence.
“I am happy that a section of youths have seen the way forward. Those still working with the politicians should come to their terms before the law catches up with them,” he said.
