Two government officials differed publically on whom to be blamed on rampant brewing in Gesima area that has reportedly consumed the minds and time of local youths as the crackdown on illicit brewers enters its second week.

Gesima chief James Ogeto on Sunday blamed neighbours from Riamoni location for being the epicentre of illicit brewing, a statement that was vehemently refuted by his counterpart, Mr Francis Rasugu.

Mr Ogeto alleged that changa’a businessmen from his location imported the illicit brew from the neighboring Riamoni and challenged the neighbours to put measures that could see brewers brought to book.

“We are just victims of circumstances and all of you know that. My people have been importing the illicit brew across the neighbourhood and my counterpart hasn’t come up with suggestions to curb this brewing habit. Many youths are losing focus in life and this is the right time to help them,” he said.

However, Riamoni locations chief Francis Rasugu denied the claims and urged his colleague to come up with a good strategy of fighting the menace instead of starting blame games.

“It is not yet late for us and this is the time to get to the root cause of brewing. Blame games aren’t important at this time and my colleague must know that. Let us fight this menace as a team and win it together as one,” he said.

Currently, local administrators in the region are cracking a whip over illicit brewers with over 1,000 litres reportedly impounded after the presidential order.
