Nyamira residents who predominantly supported ODM in 2007 and 2013 polls have been urged to ditch the party and join newly formed Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) that will be used by President Uhuru Kenyatta in his bid to seek the second term in 2017.
Speaking on Thursday at Nyabuya village in Nyamira, Gesima JAP activist Charles Mokaya said time had come for area residents to side with the government by supporting President Kenyatta’s second term in a bid to spur development in the region.
He urged residents to register in numbers as JAP members saying that it had ideologies and manifestos that will improve their livelihoods.
“I think time has come for you to shun politics of rhetoric and join the government. The president is committed in helping our county but you haven’t shown willingness. We can do this by registering as members of this new party and abide by its ideologies,” said Mokaya, who plans to challenge the area MCA in the 2017 election.
He accused the opposition coalition, Cord, of being an impediment to development.
“The opposition is on record by whipping its members who side with the government and that is an indication that it is not ready to help its people,” he said.
However, ODM representative Andrew Kearauni accused Mokaya of insincerity and urged the government to work for its people indiscriminately.
“You don’t have to sing the name of the government for it to deliver on its mandate. It is important that we are sincere with our people. ODM promotes good governance and that is why we are in opposition,” he said.
