Residents of Gesure sub-location in Sameta in the county of Kisii today held peaceful demonstrations to protest being denied their rights on the appointment of the area assistant chief.
The peaceful protesters led by one David Ogega matched to the Office of the Kisii County Commissioner Chege Mwangi in Kisii town to air their grievances.
The residents while presenting their issue to the county commissioner laid all the blame on the area Chief and their ward representatives for fighting to see someone from their clan takes the position of the assistant chief something the residents said is against the principle of equal representation.
“The assistant Chief that was chosen comes from the same clan with our chief and our members of county assembly who are the authority in our area. And they have decided to look down upon us and choose who they want from among their people and that is the reason why we are here at the county commissioner’s office,” said Ogega.
The residents said that they had come to the county commissioner as the head of provincial administration to help them out.
The residents also called on the county commissioner to take a look at the matter urgently so as to stop the act of nepotism from spreading in the region.
