A local choir from Getare area in Kitutu Masaba constituency has offered to support 10 orphans who have been living under deplorable conditions.

Speaking on Tuesday during a fundraising ceremony in the region, Getare church choir leader Veronica Ondimu said the 10 were identified by a committee they had constituted earlier on this month to identify the neediest children.

According to them, the 10 children will stay in one of the church member’s home till the choir raises enough money to set a children’s home, which is part of their main agenda.

“We had to identify the neediest for a start. This does not mean that we will only help a few. They will temporarily stay in one of the church member’s home till be raise enough money to construct a children’s home because its among our plans,” she said.

She called upon community members to support the needy children in society besides taking them to institutions to garner knowledge fort their better future.

“We have a number of needy children from this region not necessarily orphans. We want the community to help us identify and help them go to school as the best way of eradicating poverty in our locality,” she added.

Church elder Pius Onwong’a urged local leaders to support the initiative since the church had enough land to build a children’s home.

“I want to salute what the church choir has demonstrated today. It will be important if we get a little support from our leaders so that we build a shelter for orphans in this region. We cannot possibly watch our children go through difficulties,” he said.
