He said cases of brutality meted by the police on civilians are on the rise.

He spoke a day after Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto was injured after police allegedly threw a tear-gas canister at him, hitting his face.

He had gone to respond to calls by youth in the county who had claimed had been innocently arrested.

After the incident in Bomet, he was airlifted to Nairobi for treatment before being flown to South Africa for specialised treatment.

Governor Ruto is a fierce critic of Deputy President William Ruto who plans to run for President in 2022.

"I was shocked by the police brutality meted out on the Bomet governor HE Isaac Rutto," Moi said.

"It is unfortunate that the police, who are meant to protect the lives of the public, are the same ones assaulting them. I called on the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to immediately bring those involved to book."
