The Senator who was speaking in Baringo on Sunday said he supports the unity deal as is it the only way through which Kenyans who came out of the August 8 general election and October 26 repeat poll sharply divided can be united. Uhuru and Raila remain Kenya's top leaders going by the huge followings the two command across the country.

"I am for the handshake and I am in full support for it," the Senator who is eyeing the presidency in 2022 said.

Gideon has been quiet over his stand on the new alliance between Uhuru and the former prime minister. Uhuru and Raila's unity is threatening to tear apart the Rift Valley region as supporters of Deputy President William Ruto who is Gideon's main political rival in the vote rich region claim it is meant to block the DP's 2022 presidential bid.

Gideon said Kenyans  need unity now more than any other time and the decision by Uhuru and Raila to agree to work together should be embraced by all Kenyans.

Raila, apart from meeting Uhuru has also met former presidents Daniel Arap Moi who is Senator Gideon's father as well as Mwai Kibaki.

Ruto recently unsuccessfully attempted to reach out to former president Moi as the former teacher's family said Ruto did not make a formal communication before traveling to Kabarak, Moi's home location.
