Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed his Baringo counterpart Gideon Moi’s 2022 presidential ambitions terming them unrealistic.
According to the Star, Murkomen said Moi is an absentee leader who is devoid of the suffering his Baringo people are undergoing, and rarely attends Senate sessions.
The Elgeyo Marakwet Senator was responding to Baringo Speaker William Kamket’s remarks who had told Murkomen that DP William Ruto should be ready to battle with Moi for the presidency in 2022.
“As you throw your weight behind Ruto, we in Kanu are fully behind Gideon. Murkomen and Ruto are on the other side. We all target the presidency. Kenyans will decide,” Kamket told Murkomen as quoted by the Star.
But Murkomen responded; “If you see Gideon, please tell him I have been looking for him in the Senate and on the ground. He is always missing. He does not even know the size of Baringo."
Murkomen said it is now time for the Moi family to support Ruto’s bid in 2022, noting that Rift Valley residents had supported retired president Daniel arap Moi for 24 years.
The two spoke Saturday during the launch of NYS programme in Kerio Valley.
Early this month, Moi said he had received the blessings of the Kalenjin to go for the top seat.
“I have approached my supporters in the Nandi, Baringo and Kericho counties and they gave me the blessings to go for the seat after the President’s term ends,” Gideon said.
“I was born in Kalenjin. My father and mother both are Tugen so and I don’t see the likelihood of anyone blocking my dreams of becoming President,” he added.
