Baringo Senator Gideon Moi is among top politicians who have declared interest in the 2022 presidential election.
The former retired President Daniel Arap Moi's son candidature in the 2022 general election is giving Deputy President William Ruto’s sleepless nights.
Ruto is also in the list of politicians eyeing to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta who is serving his last term.
As 2022 succession debate intensifies, here are five likely politicians who could be Gideon Moi’s presidential running mates in the next general election if he opts to go for the top seat.
1. Kalonzo Musyoka.
The former Vice President and Wiper party leader has also declared interest in the top seat. Kalonzo has been quoted saying that he will not mind partnering up with politicians who share the same vision with him.
There is wide speculations that Gideon Moi and Kalonzo could partner in the 2022 presidential election. According to political analyst Peter Ngure, Moi-Kalonzo ticket is saleable and could see them succeed Uhuru Kenyatta if they work together.
2. Anne Waiguru.
She is the Kirinyaga governor serving her first term in office. Waiguru’s political star is steadily rising with speculations that she could be Mt Kenya’s politician to deputize Deputy President William Ruto in 2022.
The former Devolution Cabinet Secretary has in the recent past been spotted attending DP Ruto’s political functions. However, Waiguru could also be approached by Gideon Moi to be his presidential running mate in 2022.
3. Raila Odinga.
He is the ODM party leader and the country’s most experienced politician. Raila has four times unsuccessfully contested for the presidential seat. The former Prime Minister is regarded the country’s ‘father’ of democracy.
Political analysts argue that Odinga has not given up on the bid to be the country’s fifth president..The former Prime Minister last week meeting with retired President Daniel Moi elicited reactions with claims that he is lobbying for Moi’s support ahead off 2022.
Political pundits argue that it will be difficult for Moi family to endorse Raila’s for presidency unless he agrees to deputize Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who is also eyeing the top seat in 2022.
4. Musalia Mudavadi.
He is the Amani National Congress (ANC) Party leader and a former Vice President. Mudavadi recently fell out with ODM Party leader Raila Odinga. Political pundits argues that Moi-Mudavadi combination in 2022 could excite voters.
5. Hassan Joho.
The Mombasa governor is serving his last term in office and has also declared interest in the 2022 presidential seat.
Joho’s popularity has been growing tremendously and is one of the county’s top politicians. A combination with Gideon Moi could work out in 2022.
