On Saturday, a man police said was armed with a machete gained entry into Ruto’s house after reportedly snatching a gun from a GSU officer stationed at the gate before shooting and killing him.
“The attack on the deputy president's Sugoi home by gunmen at such a critical moment when the country is preparing for an election in few days is shocking and worrying,” Moi said on Sunday.
“It sends shivers in the country given that the DP's home is among the well-guarded and that a gunman can have courage to attack baffles.”
He called on our security agencies to fully investigate the motive of the attack and get to the bottom of the matter as the incident was a security threat not only to the deputy president but also the country.
“Kenyans at this moment want to peacefully participate democratically in electing their leaders and no criminal element or group should be allowed to jeopardise peace at this critical time,” Moi said.
“Our security agencies should thus remain vigilant and ensure Kenyans go to the polls without hiccups that may throw the country into turmoil and uncertainty.”
It took 18 for members of the Recce Squad to gun down the attacker.
No one was at home at the time the attack took place.
