Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to look into the insecurity crisis in the county.

Moi called on Uhuru to personally intervene to ensure normalcy returns in the area, which has witnessed several criminal cases in the recent past.

His appeal to the President comes after a series of killings by heavily armed bandits in Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.

“I will not allow this kind of animosity to continue. I will push for peace to prevail in Baringo. I ask the government to send more Kenya Police reservists to this region to restore peace,” he said while addressing residents of Mochongoi Tuesday last week.

On Friday, four people were seriously injured after suspected Pokot assailants attacked a bus carrying former Inspector General David Kimaiyo's relatives.

The bus carrying mourners was attacked along Chesongoch-Liter Road in Elgeyo Marakwet.

On February 18, two politicians from the region were shot dead.

Tiaty Constituency parliamentary aspirant Pepee Kitambaa and Loyamorok Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Kibet Cheretei were shot dead at half past midnight at a night club.

Three days after the politicians were assassinated, the government deployed a contingent of security forces to Baringo South, to deal with increasing cases of insecurity.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett said the team drawn from the regular police, GSU and administration police rapid deployment unit was already conducting a security operation in the region, where several people have been killed in violent clashes and cattle rustling incidents.

The government has also directed Baringo County leaders to hold talks to resolve the crisis.

The locals are living in fear, saying the region is not safe. They staged demonstrations, decrying the rising cases of killings.

They faulted the government for failing to ensure their safety in the region.
