Nakuru East MP David Gikaria has supported the merger of the United Republican Party (URP) and The National Alliance (TNA) party into Jubilee Alliance Party.
Speaking in Nakuru town this morning, Gikaria said that merging the two parties will ensure that they retain government in 2017.
He said it will be easier for President Kenyatta and DP William Ruto to work together under one party because it will be easier for them to tame any rebellions and divisions within the party.
“The move to join the two parties is a move which should be supported by everybody in the Jubilee coalition because it will make us strong and more united, especially as we approach 2017," he said.
"It will be easier for the president to rule under one party as opposed to the current situation of ruling under a coalition of parties,” said Gikaria.
Gikaria added that it will be easier for the new party to be sold to Kenyans as across the country as one outfit rather than each party going on its own.
“Working under one party will be less costly especially during campaigns and party nominations because all the funds and resources will be consolidated under one party,” he said.
On Friday, the two main parties in the Jubilee coalition, -- URP and TNA --unveiled the Jubilee Alliance party which they will use in 2017 general election.
