Nakuru East MP, David Gikaria has called for all legislators to support the two thirds gender rule debate saying it will benefit the rural women

Gikaria cited that majority of the women in the outskirts of Nairobi will benefit from this as it will empower women at the grassroot levels.

He was addressing women at Railways Grounds after issuing cheques worth Sh4.4 million on Monday. Gikaria said that the representation of women in Kenya parliament has been minimal

“Under representation of women will affect the progress of the county in both the economically, politically or socially sphere.” he added. Gikaria pointed out that many women were willing to participate fully in the process of making devolution successful.

“We will be able to ensure that the services that come with devolution reach the common women. It ensures that important services like health, education and even transport. As a father of four girls I believe that we will be the main beneficiaries,” he added.

Gikaria also challenged women groups in the area to invest into real estate.

“The era where people believed that a womans place is in the kitchen is long gone. Women are the ones who are running the current economy,” he added
