Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria has accused National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale of directing the DPP to prosecute him and four others for destruction of property on a disputed parcel of land.

Speaking outside Nakuru Law courts on Monday, Gikaria said the DPP has failed to get enough evidence to prosecute him, Flamingo MCA Moses Gichangi, activists Boniface Mwangi, Elijah Kinyanjui and Francis Kihero.

“I will no longer recognise Duale as my Majority Leader. His people have come to grab school land in my constituency which I cannot allow. He called the DPP to prosecute the five of us through fabricated allegations,” Gikaria said.

The MP accused the ENSE company of grabbing the Naka primary piece of land.

“The land in question belongs to Naka Primary School and we have all documents to proof that. We demolished the perimeter wall constructed by grabbers,” added the MP.

“I don't fear being arrested or even jailed with my co-accused. I must protect my poor electorate from being exploited by private developers," he added.

The Director, Society for International Development (SID) which was formed after the Langata School land grabbing said they are determined to protect the 29 000 schools from being grabbed.

“We have 4100 cases of school land grabbing in our courts. A total of 29 000 schools land have been grabbed. We shall fight to the end to protect the schools land from private developers since when we loose in one we loose from all,” said Houghton Irungu of the Shule Yangu Alliance.

Flamingo Ward Member of County Assembly asked the National Land Commission and the Ministry of Education to find a permanent solution for the land in dispute.

They accused the county government of Nakuru for failing to protect the plight of the poor and protecting the illegally employed workers who were sacked by the county assembly.

“We have seen the governor protecting illegally employed staff in the county which the assembly dismissed two weeks ago. We see him failing to protect the poor,” said Elijah Kinyanjui, one of the co-accused.
