Gikaria says that over the years, politicians who have served for a longer term outlive their usefulness.

"I intend to introduce a bill in parliament that will bar any politician from holding office for more than two terms in order to give every qualified person the opportunity to lead," he said.

Gikaria was speaking in an exclusive interview on Tuesday where he added that the bill will bar MCAs, MPs, senators and women representatives in the country from leading for what he called "a lifetime".

"We have seen cases in the minority communities where some leaders have been in power for more than fifteen years. Yet, their development record cannot be seen," he said.

Gikaria pointed out that since the presidential term has limits, the same should apply for all the other electoral seats.

“I know I might meet some opposition especially from leaders who have been in power for a long time, but I feel that in ten years one can be able to initiate enough development and hand over the banner to somebody else,” he added.

Gikaria pointed out that many young and energetic politicians who have great ideas are limited by the fact that the residents opt to choose the same leaders over and over again.
