Nakuru East MP David Gikaria has supported a proposal to reduce the number of MPs and Members of County Assembly (MCAS).

Gikaria was speaking on Monday at Nuru Palace when he welcomed a report by  Working Group on the Socio Economic Audit of the 2010 constitution chaired by Auditor General Edward Ouko.

Gikaria the government should start by reducing the number of staff within counties. 

"This would be a more realistic first step to reduce the increasing wage bill noting that Nakuru County is among the many counties suffering an economical blow due to the inherent local government workforce," said Gikaria.

The report said the amount of money used to sustain the many positions are increasing the wage bill.
