Speaking on Monday during a meeting with the new sub-county administrator Erick Ogada at his office, the over 67 workers said that it has been hard for them to get good accommodation in Gilgil, which they said does not have good houses.

They said the few rental houses available are not up to the standards, and some of them lack important necessities like water and toilets.

“The government had promised to construct its own houses here and we just want to plead to them to hasten the process so that we can have a better place to settle in and serve the people of Gilgil because lack of proper housing is affecting our performance,” said Timothy Munywoki, who spoke on behalf of the workers.

“Our service to the people will be good only if we as workers are comfortable with our families and we will be appreciative if the government can supply us with water which is also scarce here,” he said.

The sub-county administrator promised to personally follow up the matter with the county government officials, saying that he understands the plight of the workers.

“I saw the problem the first day I stepped here and as I promised when I took over I will personally push for this matter to be addressed,” said Ogada.
