Police officers in Gilgil are holding a trader for allegedly defiling five girls.

According to a local daily, the man, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, was arrested on Thursday following an outcry from child activists and victims.

Confirming the incident, Gilgil OCPD Sera Koki said that the suspect will be arraigned in court over the charges leveled against him.

The man is said to have committed the heinous acts in a period of three months.

“The only case of defilement regarding the suspect is the one we have and action will definitely be taken if there is ample evidence,” she said, as quoted by The Star.

On his part, Sakina Mohammed, a child activist said that cases of sexual abuse involving school going children have been rampant in the region.

She claimed that the suspect has been arrested for a similar offense before.

She further said that at least one child is defiled within a week. Sakina also said that the activists had rescued another minor suspected to have been defiled by a Kenya Defense Force (KDF) officer.

Activists and other leaders have urged parents to ensure their children get justice after being defiled following increased cases of suspects bribing them alongside local administrators to drop cases.
