The group known as Trace Kenya collects waste plastics and glasses at GTI Estate at a fee then recycles them to eco-tiles and roofing materials which they sell to hardwares and those building new houses.

The Managing Director of GTI Estates, Sammy Kirwa told on Monday told this writer that they contracted Trace Kenya as service providers a year ago and since then they have been doing a wonderful job of collecting wastes from the area.

"We have around 200 tenants here and Trace Kenya youths are good service providers because we have never had complaints fro our tenants that they are doing a shoddy job. They collect the waste every Friday,” said Kirwa.

Hope Mwanake, the leader of the group said that they came up with the idea to fight unemployment and poverty as well as to maintain environment clean.

"We are creating a livelihood for ourselves while conserving environment. Recycling waste materials is our business,” said Mwanake.

He however said that they have been facing some challenges among them being lack of a designated garbage site as they say the one which was being use by Nakuru County government was grabbed by a private developer.

They also added that another challenge they face is failure by some of their clients are reluctant to pay for the services but they vow to continue turning trash into cash.
