A sombre mood has engulfed residents of Likoni in Mombasa after a 10-year-old girl committed suicide at their rental home in Mrima area on Sunday.Security officers in the area have already launched an investigation into the untimely death of the child. The child’s father told the police that he discovered the body of her daughter dangling on the door after he returned from a shop.Confirming the incident, Likoni police boss Anthony Shimoli said the deceased had asked the mother to accompany her to Nairobi to purchase a present before she took her life. The police boss also said that the deceased used a piece of cloth to hang herself.“She used a piece of cloth to hang herself, this is suicide but we are investigating the matter,” said Shimoli, as quoted by Baraka FM.Shimoli said the father had left the deceased watching television at around 5 pm only to come back and find her dead. The deceased reportedly committed suicide after the mother refused to heed to her request of buying a gift. The body was transferred Coast General morgue pending investigations.
