Ogiek living in Nakuru county have been urged to educate their daughters in equal measure to their sons.
Speaking in Mariashoni yesterday, Julius Menjo, an education activist said the community has been giving second priority to their girls in academic matters.
"We are living in an era where without education, many would not be considered in various government jobs. I appeal that you educate your daughters and give them equal chances of success in life," said Menjo.
The activist urged the community to shun the old mentality where girls were married early.
"Girls should only be married after they complete their college studies. This ensures that they enjoy the future life," he added.
The activist however congratulated the community for shunning away female genital mutilation which was practiced by community in early nineties.
