A 12-year-old girl is struggling with stigmatisation from fellow pupils and friends at home due to an incessant urine leaks.
The class six pupil at Kongasis primary school has been forced to lead a lonely life due to the condition which has denied her friendships. The girl was allegedly operated on her back to remove some growth a few years back which sparked the urine leak problem.
The pupil is now depressed and the mother allegedly abandoned her after realising that she had the problem. The girl was left with her grandmother who is 85 years old and nobody knows about her mother’s whereabouts.
The grandmother, Susan Longonot, said she has no means of getting the girl the medical assistance she needs. She is calling on the county government of Nakuru and other well-wishers to assist the girl.
"I am requesting the county government to assist the girl before the situation gets worse,” said Longonot.
Kongasis primary head teacher Joseph Njeru said the girl is struggling with stigmatisation and depression which could worsen the situation, a fact that may lead her to drop out of school.
He said the girl need quick medical attention before the situation gets out of hand.
Dr Samuel Kagwi, a gynaecologist said the girl’s situation was worsened by the operation she underwent when she was young. He said the girl requires at least Sh 300,000 to rectify the problem.
