The office of the Inspector General of Police says that 28 statements have been recorded in regard to the murder of Jacob Juma three weeks ago.
Among those who recorded the statements are Juma’s wife who confirmed having the firearm owned by her husband and which has already been surrendered for safe keeping.
In a statement to newsrooms, the areas covered in the investigations include phone records, ballistic examination of two empty cartridges recovered from the scene which show that they were from an AK 47.
The statement adds, “Examination of two similar weapons recovered during recent encounters with criminals indicate one of them could be the murder weapon. This could, therefore, lead to the arrest of the murderer(s) of the late Jacob Juma.”
George Kinoti who sent the statement on behalf of the IG said statements have been taken from the owner a Land Rover used to tow Juma’s car, Karen Police officers, one of the deceased’s girlfriends and a lawyer at a city firm.
On a fateful day, Juma is said to have sent Sh30,000 to the girlfriend whom they were to meet with later in the evening at Rose Apartment but the deceased switched off his phone and instead met another woman.
Still, another girlfriend who allegedly works for a courier company is said to have received Sh60,000 to buy a mobile phone. All the transactions were made on mobile money.
The other person who has recorded a statement is a house help at Rose Apartments who received Sh9,500 on May 4 as part of her salary.
Kinoti said investigations are still ongoing.
