A new study conducted by Twaweza has revealed that girls in Nyamira perform better than boys in English and Swahili languages.

According to the study, Borabu district has the highest literacy levels in both English and Swahili.

On the other hand, Nyamira district has the lowest literacy levels in English while neighboring Manga district has lowest literacy in Swahili.

The study further found that Swahili literacy levels in Nyamira are higher than the national average.

Additionally,  it was discovered that the teacher-learner ratio was still low.

In the county, there are 12 teachers per school with 10 streams in urban areas and 11 teachers for a similar school in rural areas.

Borabu district still leads in the number of teachers per students compared to Manga which has the lowest.

Seven out of 10 class 3 pupils in Borabu district can read a class 2 story compared to three out of ten in Nyamira district.

Eight out of ten class three pupils in Borabu district can do class two maths compared to four out of ten in Manga.
