Metro World Child, an NGO operating in Nyamira is set to embark on a programme aimed at distributing sanitary towels to adolescent girls in all primary schools in Nyamira South Sub county to boost their academic performance.
According to the organisation’s Country Director Janine Stellatos, the programme will ensure that adolescent girls are retained in schools during their menstruation periods so that they can boost their self esteem and increase their performance level.
Speaking on Tuesday at Ramba primary school during the launch of the programme, she regretted that most girls, especially those from less privileged families miss classes during their periods leading to low academic standards in the region.
“In many occasions we have seen children stop going to school during the days, and with the programme we will see them go to school like any other children,” she added.
The director revealed that the programme aims to cover the entire Nyamira County as a way of giving back to the community will be a continuous exercise in all primary schools.
The foundation has in the past provided vulnerable children with support and other revision materials to local secondary schools to enable students excel in their national exams.
She disclosed that the foundation will be conducting motivational talks to primary and secondary schools students on career choices.
