The training was organized by Kenya Anti-FGM Board in collaboration with an NGO, Heart For Change that was taking place at St. Mary’s Girls Primary school Nyabururu.

Heart for Change director Lillian Marwa said circumcision of girls in the county has been on the rise in the region since parents were forcing girls to undergo the outlawed practice secretly.

“During the training girls were taught on how they should grow without undergoing the cut. The girls also promised to be good ambassadors to campaign against the illegal practice,” said Marwa.

Mrs. Marwa asked security team with the help of chiefs, assistant chiefs and Nyumba Kumi officials to arrest and prosecute parents forcing girls to undergo FGM.

She added that the fight against FGM won’t stop anytime soon.

“We will take the campaigns deep into villages to ensure FGM is not witnessed in the region. Parents should desist from the practice to avoid being on the wrong side of the law,” he noted.

One of the girls only identified as Jane from Nyakoe said they have acquired skills and will be more vigilant and report parents who will be conducting FGM secretly in villages.
