Kisumu Slum Soccer Kids in collaboration with other stake holders will on the 15th if this month organize an end year girls hygiene day aimed at empowering the girl child in Manyatta estate, Kisumu City.

The event will include among others four female teams and four other female teams participating in football and basketball tournaments respectively.

Davis Ouma who is a football and basket ball coach in Manyatta estate says 120 girls representing the 8 teams are set to take part in the event with prizes including among others sanitary pads.

“We want to empower the girl child.  We want them to know that they are not lesser human beings. We are starting small by engaging them in soccer and basket ball tournaments then give them sanitary pads,” said the coach in Kisumu on Tuesday.

The coach said football matches will be staged at Kosawo Primary School, while the basketball tournament will be hosted at the Baptist Church in Manyatta.

The day’s program also includes sharing of life skills and what the coach termed as girl talk led by invited female guests.

Kisumu WE Football academy, Kisumu Greenland Soccer Plus Ladies FC, Ayaro Ladies FC and Kajulu WE Football academy will participate in the soccer tournament, while Kisumu Slum Dunk basket ball academy, Tug Basket ball academy team A and B and Kajulu Slum Dunk Basketball academy will participate in the basket ball tournament.
