Gesima MCA Ken Atuti said the trend of boys dropping out of institutions was increasing with the vice hitting many schools in his area of governance.

According to him, Mosobeti, Rioga and Risa primary schools have recorded the highest number of boys dropping out of school with figure estimated at 32 in just a record of one term.

“I am worried with the rising trend of boys dropping out of school in my area of governance. Teachers from Rioga, Mosobeti and Risa have reported to me a total of 32 cases with the victims said bow and join menial jobs in the nearby Kipkebe tea estate,” he said.

“I wish to urge the ministry of education to start sensitization exercise so that we can reach our boys and encourage them of schooling. If an appropriate action isn’t taken, the boy child will become marginalized in this region,” he added.

Atuti also faulted parents to allow the vice to persist despite the government paying primary education for all pupils across the country.

“We must admit as parents that there is something wrong with us. How can we allow our boys drop out of schools yet primary education is free? Somebody must also be held responsible,” he said.

According to him, the record of boys admitted in the ECDE classes in the region has dropped substantially with Nyaronge ECDE center admitting only five boys out of 51 pupils who enrolled in first term.
