Githobokoni ward Member of County Assembly Moses Kiarie has promised to work on educational infrastructure in order to improve the dying standards of education in his ward.

Speaking to teenagers at Gatunguru Boys Secondary School on Wednesday who had convened for a mentorship training, Kiarie noted that education was the pillar to driving the society's growth.

Kiarie expressed his disappointment over the 2014 KCSE performance since none of the candidates from his ward who sat for the exam scored a mean grade of A adding that the discouraging results incited him to look for ways and means of rectifying the situation.

"I appeal to teachers to benchmark their students with reputable and well performing schools across the county in order to increase the ward’s chances of producing direct university entry grades in the future although we expect improvement from last year’s candidates," he said.

"We have plans to have a Kenyatta University satellite campus here in Gatundu North which I expect to be located in my ward. We hope to complete talks with the school soon and probably start recruiting students come 2017," he said.

Kiarie lauded the sub county sponsored initiative and urged other elected leaders to emulate such in order to boost child right, democracy, growth and standards of academics in the sub county.

"Quality grades can be realised if there is good will and sound working relationship among various stakeholders including teachers, parents, students and leaders," he noted.

He encouraged parents to heavily invest in their children’s education as one way of uplifting living standards in the area.
