Benson Thuku who is the Gachege Tea Zone Electoral Area Director said the first batch of the fertiliser consignment is expected to arrive at the factory by mid next month.

Speaking during a tea farmers meeting at Gachege market on Wednesday, Thuku said there is need for all farmers to take advantage of the incoming short rains that are suitable for top-dressing fertilisers.

"Remove the weeds from your tea plantations early so that once you get the fertiliser, you will just apply it when the rains will still be on," said Thuku.

He however warned the farmers against selling the fertilisers once they get them saying it is against the factory's guidelines.

"Farmers who will be found selling the fertiliser will risk being banned from delivering their tea produce to the factory for up to six months. You are supposed to apply the fertiliser on your tea farm to enhance productivity and quality," said Thuku.
