Former Kiambaa MP Stanley Githunguri has told leaders from Kiambu County not to misinterpret calls for unity.

Githunguri said the pleas are not aimed at fighting the current leaders but are for the interest of the community.

"This should be taken seriously by all of us," he said.

Speaking at Kanunga High School on Wednesday during a prize giving day, Githunguri said that Kiambu will gain more if the leaders are united.

"Positive development can only be achieved through unity," he said.

Githunguri said people misunderstand devolution because of lack of sensitisation. He said Kenyans should know that delivery of services is now done by two levels of government.

"The national and county governments have been given various functions under the constitution but many people seem to be unaware because of lack of information," Githunguri said.

He urged the Council of Governors (COG) not to concentrate on their agitation for money and focus on working for the people.

"Governors should be talking of 'services mashinani' and not 'money mashinani' because even if they are given that money, at the end of the day people are interested in services," Githunguri said.
