While addressing bar owners, Githunguri sub-county public health officer, James Kanyora said that beer bottled in plastics could easily be contaminated using syringes where harmful substances could be injected.

Mr. Kanyora added that some of the drinks were not safe for human consumption since they are illegally manufactured by profit minded businessmen who ignore the sanctity of human life.

The health officer advised bar owners to buy alcoholic drinks from authorized distributors who have been cleared by the Githunguri liquor and licensing court.

He urged bar owners to make sure that bar attendants do not sell liquor in halves as it is against the county’s and the national law.

Area OCPD Lanson Lolmondoni, also warned bar operators against flouting alcoholic drinks law or risk being arrested and prosecuted.

The police chief revealed that there were cases where tusker bottles were being used by bar owners to package chang’aa which is later sold to unsuspecting clients and asked the clients to be wary.

Drinking hours, he said, should be observed and warned that those who will be found operating after or before the stipulated hours will not be spared.
