The operators are claiming the existence of criminal gangs that are allegedly targeting their business.

Speaking on Tuesday, the operators said that they fear for their security following a spate of crime targeting them.

“We are appealing to police to increase patrols and arrest criminals causing havoc in this area,” said Peter Karanja bodaboda rider.

Karanja said that five cases of bodaboda operators being attacked and robbed have been reported in the last two weeks.

He said that the attackers pose as passengers only to pounce on the riders in the middle on their journey.

Samson Kiriita, a representative for Githunguri bodaboda association said that operators are operating in the area.

He said that police need to hunt down for the criminals and ensure that their business is not interrupted,

The operators appealed to Kiambu county commissioner to intervene over the matter and ensure security is guaranteed.

Meanwhile, Githunguri residents have been appealed to embrace the Nyumba Kumi security initiative.

Charity Kimani, a Nyumba Kumi coordinator in Githunguri said that security will improve if locals embrace the security initiatives being introduced by the government.

She noted that crime rates had declined in the area following the introduction of the initiative.

“There is need for every citizen to embrace the security systems the government is introducing so that we can fight crime together,” she added.
