The business fraternity in Githunguri, Kiambu County has called upon the county government to intervene in repairing the roads in the area, so as to facilitate easy mobility and accessibility during their operations.
Addressing traders at the shopping centre on Wednesday, Jonathan Kinuthia, the chairman of Githunguri Traders Association said the poor roads have been worsened by the heavy downpour being experienced in the area, rendering them impassable.
According to him, the heavy rains have played a major role in destroying the roads in the region, and no one has stepped in to be accountable for the renovations.
“The roads have been in poor condition since March when the rainy season kicked off. We are urging our leaders to step up and repair the roads,” he said.
Samuel Mwangi, a trader in the area said that the deplorable roads are a major hindrance during transportation of his farm produce from the region to various areas for trade, therefore if not repaired soon enough, he will incur great losses.
On the other hand, matatu and bodaboda operators in the area are also crying foul over the poor state of roads, citing they need immediate intervention.
Peter Ngure, a driver of one of the matatus plying the route, said the poor roads usually make them spend a lot of time on the roads trying to pave through.
He added that the poor roads also contribute towards damaging the vehicles hence making some become unroadworthy.
A bodadoda operator in the area lamented on the issue saying bumpy rides as a result of the terrible roads are the order of the day. He appealed to the leaders in the area to be swift enough in addressing the issue, following a series of complains from his customers.
