The MP said that it is time politicians desist from making inflammatory statements.

Speaking to this writer on Sunday, Baiya said that the country needs peace ahead of next year's general election.

“The country cannot afford again to experience the 2007/2008 post-election skirmishes that led to loss of lives and destruction of property,” he said.

The MP said that the skirmishes were as a result of incitement and hate remarks.

“Politicians and Kenyans at large must watch their tongues and desist from inflammatory statements,” he said.

The Githunguri MP asked the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to crack the whip on hate mongers, saying together with other agencies, the commission should ensure that hate mongers are dealt with accordingly.

Baiya also urged Kenyans to stop tolerating politicians who engage in hate speech.

The MP said that 2017 elections will be peaceful if hate mongers are dealt with, urging other politicians across the political divide to put aside their differences and unite the country.

Meanwhile, a section of Kiambu residents want leaders in the county to keep of politics of hate.
