Traders in Githurai 45 are angered by the erection of a perimeter fence at Githurai roundabout.
A section of residents claim that they have been using the field to conduct their businesses.
According to Githurai small business scale traders chairman Mwangi Njeru they have always transacted their businesses on the roundabout.
Njeru says that since completion of the Thika super highway they have been carrying out their businesses in the field.
He said that it would be a great idea if they were offered a better central area for conducting their businesses which will be well constructed and in a position to accommodate more of traders.
“If you look at Githurai you find that most traders are usually on roadsides and on pavements meaning we need a well built central market,’’ said Njeru.
Tujenge Youth Group chairman George Ndegwa and his group consisting of five who sell shoes and second hand clothes at the roundabout said that the move of erecting the perimeter fence has hindered their business.
“We have been on this roundabout for quite a while now this wall has cost most of us. This is the place we have been doing our business in,” notes Ndegwa.
He also calls for calmness among some traders who are threatening to pull down the fence and get back to conducting their businesses on the roundabout.
Matatu operators plying the route 45 Sacco say that they are happy with the new fencing project that has forced the traders out.
Githurai 45 Matatu Sacco chairman Antony Njoroge said that they have seen tremendous change in congestion reduction a move they gladly welcome since even their passengers feel more secure.
He said incidents of phones and luggages being stolen have greatly decreased due to the reduction of the mammoth crowd which was there before.
