The irate demonstrators wielding placards and twigs complained that the garbage is eating up their trading area, and it is also affecting their business as customers shun away due to the dirt.

Mary Mwangi, a vegetable vendor at the Githurai 45 market said that the place has become so smelly, which has resulted to the number of customers dropping significantly.

Martin Kariuki, a resident speaking to the press said that they have been paying the Kiambu County Government for the garbage collections, yet they don’t come to collect it.

“Whenever we ask for a meeting with our leaders to discuss issues like insecurity, roads and health they don’t turn up and we have no one to listen to our plight,” said Njoroge.

He added that the health of the residents is at risk as they might contract diseases like cholera and malaria, which are associated with dirty living conditions.

To this effect, Njoroge urged the residents to take up Identity Cards and register as voters so that they can choose better leaders in the upcoming elections.

Ruiru Sub County administrator Mohammed Abdi has refuted the claims saying that the county government trucks collect the garbage twice each week.
