Simon Kang’ethe, a youth coordinator in Githurai said that young people must stand up and take part in campaigns that aims to create unity.

He observed that for a long time youths have been used to propagate animosity by selfish politicians and individuals.

“It is time for the youths not only in Kiambu but across the country to stand up and champion for peace,” said Kange’the.

The coordinator asked youths to shun leaders who are fond of using young people as weapons of violence.

He said that some selfish people take advantage of youth’s vulnerability to use them to commit crime and other social evils.

The Ndumberi youth coordinator urged the national and the county government to initiate peace campaigns.

At the same time, the youth coordinator asked the government to compensate victims of the 2007/2008 post-election skirmishes.

“Since the ICC cases have been terminated the government now needs to compensate victims and initiate reconciliation programmes that will provide for healing,” he said.
